HTC launched its smartphone U Ultra during CES 2017, becoming the first smartphone to be announced this year Premium. The company also said that a version with Sapphire Crystal would come later.
Although everyone initially thought that the HTC U Ultra with Sapphire Crystal would be limited only to the Taiwan market, it seems that HTC intends to offer this model also in other countries. Now, a recent report notes that the U Ultra version with Sapphire Crystal will start to be marketed in Germany and Switzerland from April 18 and its price will be EUR 849.
The standard model of HTC U Ultra brings Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and is priced at 699 euros in Europe, although this figure depends on the VAT that is applied in the different countries and markets.
Sapphire Crystal adds greater protection but cost more than the coating Gorilla Glass
Sapphire Crystal was added both the HTC U Ultra screen and rear camera in order to better protect the sensor in case of falls or occasional scratches.
This type of glass is made from crystallized aluminium oxide and is used in the Apple Watch and other devices. It is more expensive than the Gorilla Glass and seems that it provides enhanced front shock and fall protection.

HTC U Ultra with Sapphire Crystal is already on sale in Taiwan at a price of 880 euros. The device has the same specifications as the standard HTC U Ultra, and boasts an eight-core processor Snapdragon 821 to 2.15 GHz, as well as with 4 GB of RAM.
On the other hand, the terminal also brings up to 128GB of internal memory, while the display has a size of 5.7 inches and a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
